Fiorella's Cafe is the closest thing in the actual FQ. however on the outskirts are both Willie Mae's Scotch House and Li'l Dizzy's Cafe both of which are good options.  also read about Cafe Reconcile 's mission and try the food.  also quite a few "Meat & 3's" that surround the FQ worth trying.  You can skip places like Coop's Place .  the touristy places serve some very average and dumbed down soul/creole foods.  Don't forget soul food on french bread (Poboys)

I would leave the French Quarter for Willie Mae's in the Treme.
