Where's the best place to listen to jazz?

I'm coming to NOLA with a group of friends next month.  We're all bummed that we'll be missing Jazz Fest by just a couple weeks, so where can we make up for this tragedy?

Frenchmen Street!  It's by far the most popular street to listen to jazz as it has the most popular venues/jazz clubs.  Three of the most famous ones on that street are Snug Harbour, Maison, and The Spotted Cat Music Club

If you're in the Uptown area, there's Tipitina's and Maple Leaf Bar.  If you walk around The French Quarter and/or on Bourbon Street, you'll also be bound to stumble upon bars with lives jazz music, too.

  1. Tipitina's (attraction)
  2. Maple Leaf Bar (attraction)
  3. The Spotted Cat Music Club (attraction)
  4. Bourbon Street (attraction)
  5. Frenchmen Street (attraction)
  6. The French Quarter (neighborhood)

Check out the Carousel Lounge. This is a historical spot for a great late night cocktail, but watch yourself since there is actually spinning of the carousel involved. Part of the Hotel Monteleone.

Mentioned in this answer:

  1. Carousel Lounge (restaurant)
  2. Hotel Monteleone (hotel)
