I spent a few days in New Orleans last week and of course you have to do the French Quarter, I recommend to take a tour to know more of the history of the city. It is too touristy but it's beautiful anyway.

Try the creol any can un food, it's amazing, I specially liked the jambalaya. Go to the Preservation Hall to listen some jazz, it's traditional and has a wonderful feeling, and go to some bars over Frenchmen Street where they play at any time. Walk through the Garden District and take the streetcar of St. Charles Ave. Have some beignets and if you can have breakfast at The Ruby Slipper, it's incredible.

I didn't particular liked the French Market Inn but you should give it a try.
