What is the best bayou to visit near New Orleans? What about the rest of Louisiana?
Southwest of New Orleans are Thibodaux and Houma - there are several swamp tours in the area worth patronizing. Or travel west of New Orleans to Donaldsonville and travel south down La. Hwy. 1 all the way to Grand Isle. Hwy 1 follows Bayou Lafourche to the Gulf of Mexico. There are beautiful antebellum homes along the way, and of course, mom and pop restaurants serving some of the best food in the world. Or travel further west to Lafayette for more great food and Cajun music and dancing. Follow the Vermilion River south to Abbeville (Louisiana) and enjoy crawfish at Cajun Claws.

We've been on the Honey Island Swamp tour, and it was awesome. The guides are really nice and knowledgable, and they make the whole experience really simple and enjoyable. It's an easy drive from New Orleans.
