Is there anything worth seeing/doing/eating in or around New Brunswick, NJ???

No, there really, really isn't. I'm sorry, but there just isn't. Other than a couple of regional theaters, there is pretty much nothing to see there. I'd try to catch the train into the city!

Comedy shows at Stress Factory Comedy Club can have some good talent. Other than that, mostly college bars.

Forty minutes south of New Brunswick in Hamilton is the Grounds For Sculpture, an absolutely fabulous 42-acre outdoor sculpture garden on what used to be the old New Jersey State Fairgrounds, decades back. The collection is large and varied; featured are numerous whimsical semi-realistic figures by Seward Johnson. Also on the grounds is Rat's Restaurant -- expensive but excellent contemporary cuisine, in a lovely fantasy-like setting (the decor is inspired by "The Wind in the Willows").

In New Brunswick, you'll only be a half hour from Princeton (New Jersey), which has excellent restaurants, from the very upscale to mid-priced. I'm partial to Triumph Brewing Company, a nice brew pub. Princeton has an excellent art museum, Princeton University Art Museum, one of New Jersey's best kept secrets. Get coffee and pastry at Small World Coffee. Princeton also has the McCarter Theatre Center, for drama and music.

New Brunswick itself has has theater and concert venues -- the George Street Playhouseand State Theatre NJ. There are some good restaurants, but I'm only familiar with the Old Bay Restaurant -- good basic fare. On the edge of the Rutgers campus you'll find (I kid you not) the Grease Trucks -- mobile eateries deservedly famous for good cheap eats. It probably doesn't sound too promising, but students, faculty and visiting athletes swear by the Grease Trucks.

Yes there is stuff to do and places to go to.The Zimmerli Art Museum is  actually pretty good.THE FROG AND THE PEACH is a first rate restaurant.There are a couple of theaters.There are a number of bars and restaurants.If you hit at the right time there is the Rutgers Film Festival .That said, i wouldn't vacation there but it's not uninteresting.
