We stayed at the Trident Norman on the ocean promenade. It was a great location to explore the city and a beautiful location.  We used the app "Tablet" to get an upgrade and good rate.

When you are there, don't miss the Restaurant "Taste" - one of the best meals in our lives!

Hey Michael, largely depends on what you want to do. I'd recommend staying in South Bombay amid the chaotic and noisy ColabaCauseway. Abode Bombay is a good option of boutique hotels there. Most of the prominent sights and experiences are in South Bombay.

A little further away may be Cuffe Parade

My favourite places of all time is BandraIt has brilliant restaurants, by the sea, you can take a walk on Chapel Roadfor some street art, shop at Linking Road Khar Bus Stopor Hill Road Buildingfor really cheap, factory rejects. Or take a cab to Lower Parelfor fine dining and upscale shopping.
