Alasdair asked

Any nice seaside towns between Essaouira and Rabat I could stop at?

I'll be stopping at Essaouira and then heading up to Rabat and Fez.  I'd love to stop in a quiet seaside town a little of the beaten track.  Any recommendations?

Morocco   Essaouira (Morocco)   Rabat (Morocco)   Fez (Morocco)

Oooh, I hadn't heard of El Jadida. What's great about it?

Yes!  Check out Oualidia.  It's north of Essaouira(the medieval part of it and Fez were our favorite spots in Morocco!).

Oualidia has a protected lagoon which makes for easy swimming (it's a popular little beach destination for the royals, but it's plenty laid back).  In the fall/spring, there are tons of pink flamingos.

If you're interested, it's a fabulous place to learn to surf (the lagoon has areas that are very beginner friendly).

My wife and I visited last year (here's our blog post).  And here's an article that's a few years old that'll give you a taste.

It's definitely a smallish town and the tourists are almost entirely Moroccan.

Oualidia or El Jadida they are both  small cities and its easy to find a small hotel there and if you want to spend a night in Casablanca its fine its about 80 km from Rabat.
