Things to do and affordable hotel for a week?

Apart from the lakeside, what's there to do in Montreux, Switzerland? And where can I find an affordable hotel for a week?

Hi Ryan, Montreux is a gorgeous place. If you are going to be there from July 4, I strongly suggest to stop by at the Montreux Jazz Festival for a day. You can check their website for the free gigs. Do take a walk around Vieille-Ville de Montreux/Old Town of Montreux and visit the Château de Chillon.

You'll get plenty of options to stay Clarens like Ermitage au Lac Hotel Montreux or Résidence du Lac or even Villa Toscane

Travel safe!

Take the Chocolate Train to the Maison Cailler chocolate factory in Broc, Switzerland.

And for another trip, the Golden Pass From Montreux to Lucerne in a panoramic coach. Three railway lines will take you from Lake Geneva towards the Alpine summits and then on down to Lake Lucerne, Switzerland.

If you're there in July, attend the Montreux Jazz Festival which is also by the lakeside - there are free open air events and paid indoor events. (

Check out the Château de Chillon or even take a train (about 15 minutes) up to Lausanne

Hello Ryan, apart from lakeside, you can visit Rochers-de-Naye, the Rochers de Naye is easily accessible from Montreux, where the highest railway in the canton, the (Chemin de fer Montreux-Glion-Rochers-de-Naye) starts. From the summit station (1,968 metres (6,457 ft)), only a short walk is necessary to reach the summit. It is also possible to access the summit by driving to Col de Jaman and then making the 2-3 hour hike to the peak.

You can also take Swiss Chocolate Train which departs from Montreux on the Swiss Riviera, ascend to Gruyères, home of the famous Gruyère cheese, and eventually continue to Broc, where the chocolate factory is situated.

You can also visit Château de Chillon located on a rock on the banks of Lake Geneva. The water castle is the most visited historic building in Switzerland.
