What to do for a family outing in Monterey?

Going to Monterey for the day and am looking for something to do that's not the Aquarium. I have a 3 and a 7 year old so it would have to be kid friendly. Any ideas please let me know and thank you.

We really enjoy visiting Elkhorn Slough.  There is a wonderful pontoon boat ride through protected waters where you see seals, sea lions, otters and birds.  There is a lovely beach and great casual dining.  It is not touristy.  If you don't wish to take the boat ride, you can still see so much wildlife.

Another great destination is Asilomar Conference Grounds and Asilomar Beach.  Asilomar (which means, refuge by the sea) is a beautiful Julia Morgan designed property with walks down to the beach.  You often see deer on the grounds, which are open to the public.

Lovers Point Park is popular for walks along the coast and picnics.

Have a great trip.

Spend a day at the Point Lobos tide pools! Or you can do an easy hike over in Big Sur, just driving through is an adventure, its stunning. We took a tour of The Farm and it was a really educational (and fun) way to see how the agriculture works in Monterey County.

I'll second Asilomar Beach as it's beautiful and there are tons of amazing tidepools full of wildlife there. Check out the tides ahead so that you can catch it at lower tide and see the most.

Also, if you're children love playgrounds, do go to the Dennis the Menace Park. It's HUGE, unique, and truly a fun place to play. My girls loved it when they were younger.
