Heading to Missouri and I'm looking for the best restaurants to try while I'm visiting. Open to all types of food! What are your top places to eat?
Well Missouri is a big state so narrowing it down to a metro area might help. Having said that KC has a ton of small locally owned restaurants in the area. What type of food are you looking for? It's already been mentioned but KC is home of BBQ and I would second Oklahoma Joe's BBQ & Catering (locals will always call it that even though they just changed their name) and make sure you go to the one on 4th street. It's the original and one of the true KC BBQ places.

Valerie,
If you're talking Kansas City (Missouri) then definitely Oklahoma Joe's BBQ & Catering (Joe's Kansas City)! BBQ is king in KC and other big hitters are Jack Stack Barbecue - Country Club Plaza, LC's Barbecue, and Gates Bar-B-Q.
Two areas that have a bunch of cool bars and restaurants are Westport Rd and Country Club Plaza.

If you are coming to the St. Louis area I would definitely recommend going to the Grant's Farm and Anheuser-Busch, Inc (brewer tour) all these are FREE. Favorite restaurant: Crown Candy Kitchen for the ice cream and BLT (the best and biggest) go during the day, its a place to avoid at dark; Ted Drewes for ice cream (concrete's are the best) the Fountain has really good food, Mai Lee, Falcon Diner at Ameristar Casino for a really great brunch and buffet, head to the Loop almost every thing is really good and its fun to eat outside. Gus' Pretzels are really good and you can see them make the pretzels. Ball Park village has some good eats, but it really crowded if the Cardinals are in town. Unfortuately, you will need a car to see the sights. Enjoy, St. Louis!
