Driving hwy 50 from Missouri going east

I'm planning a car trip with husband traveling hwy 50 from Jefferson City, MO east to Hwy 15 in Maryland then going north to New York. I'm trying to stay on these two routes as much as possible. Off the interstates and seeing the countryside. Any ideas I how I can get locations along the way. Most travel/direction sites wants to take interstates.

Buy an Atlas. Print a map with route. In settings select "No tolls" No "Interstates" Print routes city to city.
Basically, you navigate to Gettysburg. Basically you take 70 to 76. When you get to Gettysburg you can go North on 15. You have to go on 76. Otherwise take I-94E across to Churchville, NY.

If you use 'Directions' on you can opt to avoid motorways/interstates/autobahns/whatever so you get ordinary highways as a route.
Put in Jefferson City , select 'Directions', then New York City. Under 'Avoid' select 'Motorways/interstates'.
For me, oddly, it only gives the Highway 50 option when travelling back from NYC but at least that route is shown.
You can use googlemaps to follow the route via the places listed below:
From JC Highway 50 travels through or near St. LouisFlora IL, VincennesIN, Bedford (Indiana) IN, North Vernon IN, CincinnatiMilford (Ohio) OH, Fayetteville (Ohio) OH, Chillicothe (Ohio)McArthur (Ohio) OH, Albany (Ohio)Athens (Ohio)Coolville (Ohio)Parkersburg WV, Ellenboro (West Virginia) WV, Bridgeport (West Virginia) WV, Grafton (West Virginia)Aurora (West Virginia) WV, GormaniaRomney (West Virginia) WV, Winchester (Virginia) and Middleburg (Virginia) then meets Highway 15  at Gilberts Corner.
Then north on Highway 15 travelling through or near FrederickEmmitsburgDillsburgWormleysburgDuncannon then northwards to Lawrenceville where the 15 becomes I-99 and you'll need to decide what route options to take through NY.
