My husband and I are headed to Milano for the first time and looking for dinner recommendations. We prefer Italian-speaking, friendly, family-run local restaurants that are authentic and not pretentious or trendy. Local Milanese cuisine preferred but I have not tried an Italian dish I have not loved. We do not want a tourist menu. We are staying downtown but will travel wherever. Parlo abbastanza italiano. Grazie mille in anticipo! :)

When you get to Milan take tram no 9 or Metro to Porta Genova and walk down Navigli Grande or Navigli Pavese. The canal banks are lined with (mostly) really good Italian restaurants and bars. The area around St Ambrogio also has some superb restaurants.
