Best southern Michigan 2 night road trip for fall foliage leaving from Indiana...
From Michigan City take route 12 across to 31 N in South Bend. It ends on Napier Ave in Saint Joseph (Michigan). Take Napier to the end and turn Right. Follow along the lakeshore. Look for Blue Star Highway. Follow that along the Lake Michigan Shore. Stop in St. Joseph at Clementines Too or go to Silver Beach Pizza. Stop in South Haven for lunch or dinner or shopping. Stop at Fennville - Crane Orchards U-Pick and Corn Maze for lunch, dinner or desserts. They make delicious pies and gluten free desserts. Blueberry, cherry, apple, etc. What-Not-Inn is famous for music and Coconut cake. They have the best Lake Perch. Continue on Blue Star Highway to Saugatuck. Plan to spend the night here. I always eat outside on the deck at Coral Gables. Continue along I-196 to Holland State Park. Then drive along the Shore line to Grand Haven. Walk along the Pier. Drive up to Muskegon, Whitehall (Michigan), Manistee, Cadillac (Michigan). Come back down US 131 to 12 East. Go across 12 to Detroit. Then down 23 into Toledo (Ohio). Stop in Ann Arbor and walk through Nichols Arboretum. The Quad. South University. There are many places of interest on 12 and Blue Star Highway.
