Fun things to do on a five day girls trip to Miami

A few of my friends and I have decided to hit up Miami for 5 days!  We've never done a trip like this before and none us have ever been to that part of Florida before, so we're not sure what we'll do there yet.  What we do know is that we want to spend a lot of time sunbathing at the beaches there, we want to go to a nice restaurant or two for dinner, and we want to get some shopping done.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Not that I've ever been on a girls trip before, but I just have to throw this out there -- Joe's Stone Crab is one of the greatest restaurants in the world. Only open October to May (Stone Crab season), so if you happen to be going between then, hit up Joe's.

When are you going? Miami Beach is awesome. Art Basel (a great international art show in December) is when I head to there and a day of relaxation in the sun post gallery hopping is how I like to experience the beach.

For shopping, go to Barneys. It's seriously the best Barneys in America! Awesome buyers and surprisingly little competition. Excellent sales rack too.

If yo uare going to spend the whole trip on Miami Beach, make sure to check out the  Lincoln Road Mall mall, tons of great restaurants and bars for an afternoon/evening cocktail. For shopping on Miami Beach there are a ton of shops all along  Ocean Drive if you are looking for high end boutiques. If you have acar with you and are looking for ultra high end shopping check out  Bal Harbour shops. If you are looking for mid-range shopping there is a huge mall in  Aventura that has pretty much everything you can imagine. If you are interested in outlet shopping, there is a mall about 45 minutes from the beach called  Sawgrass Mills that is one of the largest outlets in America. As far as dining goes, pretty much anywhere on the beach is tasty but if you want classic "Florida" cuisine you have to try the  Florida Cookery located in the  The James Royal Palm. Many people swear by  Joe's Stone Crab but it's crazy expensive and not really worth the value. If you want to head into downtown Miami for an evening the  The River Oyster Bar is a great venue for both fancy cocktails and fantastic food.

Thank you for all the recommendations! We wouldn't have a car, but we could always rent one because those malls sound amazing!!!

I love the River Oyster Bar, but hard to get there w/o a car. Doraku sushi on Lincoln is great.

Since you won't rent a car, check out the restaurants south of 5th Ave in  Miami Beach (that's where Joe's is which was already mentioned. it is the best, but not sure about your budget...also Smith & Wollensky - Miami Beach is a great steak spot right on the water!), plus the restaurants and bars ones on  Purdy Dock. It has some of the best restaurants in South Beach.  Pubbelly

If you get a car, you should check out  Coconut Grove, they have great boutiques on  Commodore Plaza, nice spots to eat and a small mall called  CocoWalk where they have basic brands.

If you want Malls, then  Dadeland Mallis great, they have a Saks and best Macy's in South Miami. If you want to drive far, then  Aventura Mallor  Sawgrass Mills as someone stated in a previous comment. But hopefully you will eat more than shop!

Activies: bike, jetski, parasail, kiteboard, paddleboard, mountain bike, cycle, yoga, acroyoga, etc...

Tourist traps: Restaurants on the eastern part of  Lincoln Road Mall and everything on  Ocean Driveand  Washington Ave, they have Sephora and typical brand shops, but also cheap stores where locals don't really shop. Go, but just know that's not 'Miami'. :)

I'm from  Key Biscayne which has a lighthouse and two great restaurants in the state park. You can rent bikes and even bike to Key Biscayne from Miami Beach... probably an hour or so. There is a Ritz there and some privately owned boutiques and restaurants. No big chains besides the hotel.

Best is by  The Wynwood Walls, bars, shops... and great restaurants in the  Miami Design District! But, hard to get to without a car!

Have a great time!

All of this sounds awesome! Great to hear about Miami from a local's perspective. We're open to renting a car and definitely open to renting bikes and exploring. I'll look into going to Key Biscayne because I want to make the most out of this trip. Thanks, Tiana!

Not sure if you have done this trip yet but I'd like to add my 2 cents.  You HAVE to do  The Wynwood Walls!  Plenty of restaurants, night life, and I just love the art/graffiti.  When you're there, stop by  Wood Tavern and get one of their signature beers. Best time to go is during  Art Basel but it's always live in that area!  If you go during the 2nd saturday of any month, there's an event called art walk.  The art studios stay open late and there are street performers.  Just one big Partay!  On the weekends during the day you can rent kayaks and go to the sand bars at  Haulover Beach Florida    We met a group of women with a bacholorette party on the sandbar there one Saturday.  They were all on kayaks, drunk!  A great time was had by all!

Haven't gone on this trip yet. Still collecting ideas, so thank you very much! I'll be missing Art Basel, but that art walk sounds great! :)
