Road teip

I’m planning a road trip from Salt Lake City to Memphis. What are the important stops along the way, places to see places to avoid? Good food, and places to camp overnight

I think a lot depends on the route you decide to take. Trippy has one option through Nebraska. If you go the northern route, then dip down, maybe stop over in Omaha if you're interested in Warren Buffett's town, and get some BBQ in Kansas City (Kansas) and Memphis.

The other option is to take a longer, more southern route via Dallas perhaps. That would be a totally different path if you prefer to go through Santa Fe and then up through Little Rock. I think a lot depends on which direction you know better close to your starting point in Salt Lake City.

Weather could also be a factor if you're camping overnight. I would probably also research the RV sites to determine if there are particular stops that are better. If you're doing the southern route, you can adjust the Trippy planner to plan a road trip from SLC to Memphis via Dallas.

Personally, I think it might be a more interesting drive going south if you have time to explore.

This is Memphis info only. I don’t have guidance for the entire trip. If it will be first and last trip, don’t miss Graceland. Try to imagine it before it became touristy. I remember the days when  Elvis would pull out of those gates just for a ride. I once got a wink as we were stopped at a stoplight. I was in my 20s and nearly passed out.  Camping should be in Shelby Forest. North Shelby County but only about half hour from City.  BB-Q in the most dingy looking places is usually the best. The Mississippi River Walk and a Delta Queen ride on the river. Depending on your food likes, Blue Fin has the best sushi.
At least visit the Peabody Hotel. Try to find the times when the ducks come with their royal guard down the elevator, out and march to the fountain in lobby to spend the day.  And then back up to bed for their night.Dont know if you like music but BEALE Street is music heaven. Also be careful there. It is patrolled but unfortunately Memphis is or was number 2 on most dangerous list. Detroit beat us by a hair. :(  If you want to be downtown. Near Beale, the River, some great eating, there is a very unique hotel called The Madison. Very small quaint  bar in lobby, all room are suites I think and each different. Retro decor. Most rooms have view of River....ask for one. Roof top is open for drinks and watching the Mighty Mississippi River, boats, barges, etc. A bit pricey but so unique. There are many regular hotels in same area, The Peabody but it is ALOT PRICEY...... a restaurant there though, Chez Phillips should be a splurge if you can. If you truly decide to go, I will think of some more regular things. Are there children.... would love to help. Shelby Forest is lovely and there is a road that leads to the river there as well.
Have fun, take in the ambiance of Memphis but do watch yourself. Don’t get lost. I live here and have never had problems but tourists are not quite as aware of parts of town to steer away from. This is not supposed to be a novel, just ideas, so I will hush now Y’all.

Bass Pro Shops is beautiful its downtown, & Beale Street is the best, good food, music and great places to stay close by. Elvis Presley Birthplace & Museum & plane its not in a great location, but you're safe if you stay in the area where the tourists are. Casinos in Tunica great buffet that's close by. Shelby Farms Park on Walnut Grove is beautiful, but don't know if you can camp there or not.
