I'm going to Italy in late August, and was looking to spend a week nearby at some beaches. Was thinking Croatia, but I was reading that the beaches tend to be somewhat rocky. Also considering Ibiza. Any recommendations?
Hi Daniel,
Sicily boasts some splendid beaches, white sandy ones (the whole west coast up to the north, rocky ones with small bays (sandy and pebbly) in Taormina and Giardini Naxos - perfect also for snorkeling and scuba diving. The water is exceptionnally clear, and on Lipari you'll still find some 'remote' places with few tourism. Nightlife is great in Palermo, Taormina and Catania.
If you have some more questions, just ask, I am living here. Before I forget: the beaches of Sardinia are amongst the most beautiful in the Med - the island is called the 'Caribbean of the Mediterranean'.

Hi Daniel,
With the mainland coast of over 1000 miles long and with over 1000 islands, Croatia has the most indented coastline in the Mediterranean. Think of it as 1000 Adriatic pearls on a 1000 mile long necklace.
Rocky/pebble beaches are actually a plus because they make possible crystal blue waters where you can see all the way to the bottom.
Some of the beaches you can explore in Croatia include Zlatni Rat on Brac Island, Mulini Beach in Rovinj, Medveja near Opatija, Pakleni Otoci, Makarska, and Brela, just to name a few.
There are also sand beaches in Croatia. Here's a nice compilation: http://www.likecroatia.com/news-tips/eight-croatian-sandy-beaches-and-reason-to-love-them/.
Best part of Croatia is that there's so much to see and do. Rent a car and hit the road through the coast - you'll have a great time.

The Alicante region of Spain, also known as the Costa Blanca, is famous for its beaches with 200kms of coastline. There are great sandy beaches at Guardamar del Segura, Benidorm, Altea and Dénia for example. Javea has beautiful sandy beaches as well as pretty coves and gorgeous pebble beaches which are among the best in Spain.
Ibiza is great but in August it is better known for its fantastic nightlife, DJs and clubs.
Algarve, Valencia.. I went to Cyprus, and also have nice beaches, but it really depend of your taste. Croatia has 10 or so white sand beaches..
Come to Croatia! I would suggest you come to Zlatni rat beach at
