Where to stay

Hello! I have just read your road trip from Cape Town to Maun. The one overnight stop suggested was in the Kalahari desert (D on the map). I just wondered where I could stay there? Many thanks

Elloise

Cape Town Maun

The Kalahari Desert is 900,000 square kilometres of land. If you're staying there, you're probably looking for a lodge, like Kalahari PlainsDeception Valley Lodge, or Haina Kalahari Lodge.

Check out the map, D is what they are referring to.

I'm new to TRippy, perhaps they just divide the route up over 3 or 4days and give out an automated answer?

If you check the map, D is very specifically placed off the A2 at Kang. It just seems like its placed there as there is a place to stay there? But I cant find info on anything in the area!

Hi Elloise, you're right about how Trippy works, it's splitting up the route to estimate a reasonable amount of driving time each day. For example, if you change it to drive in 2 days, it won't stop overnight in Kalahari: https://www.trippy.com/drive/Cape-Town-to-Maun-in-2-days

The suggestion of Kalahari Desert is more of a "place to see" along the way. The "D" marker is just the center of Kalahari Desert on the map. Trippy's automated road trip planner gives you a starting point, but it's always best to ask the community since members can give you more specific advice. Hope that helps!
