I'm Interested in Paia, Kihei,  not into resorts but want comfort and romantic ocean front not too far, but not in touristy parts.  Heard Lahaina is way too touristy.... Please help with suggestions? We will be camping in Hana jungle for a couple off days looking for something different.

I always stay at the Wailea Ekolu Village, condos on a golf course. You can get a 1 or 2 bedroom condo, with a kitchen, there are hot tubs, swimming pools, barbarques. A 5 minute walk down the hill is a shopping mall with many restaurants, coffee shops, and other shops, behind the mall is Wailea Beach. Prices are about $160-$180 night. Contact Destination Resorts Hawaii. Nice place, very clean, great condos, perfect location!!!

Maalaea Surf along Kihei has a bunch of old school condos (1 and 2BR). Centrally located (about 45 min from Lahaina and 25 min from Wailea) with low profile, beach front options situated on a beach that stretches 4+ miles from Kihei to Ma'alea Harbor. These are privately owned units that rent out, so there is some variability from unit to unit, but they are all 1st or 2nd floor units, with sunset views either in the ocean or over an island (depending on time of year).

  2. Kihei (city)
  3. Lahaina (city)
  4. Wailea (attraction)

I have spent ALOT of time on Maui and have found some AMAZING homes to stay in for the cost of hotel rooms. Paia is a good example, check VRBO for listings - there are many. They also have some nice homes in Hana. See if you can find the one in the flower plantation just before you get into town - it is quiet, right next to Wai'anapanapa State Park (where you might be camping) and it has great birds and flowers. Also excellent homes in "upcountry" - Makawao just above Paia.

  2. Wai'anapanapa State Park (attraction)
  3. Makawao (attraction)
