What are the top ten family must do things on Martha's Vineyard? We plan on going for a week in August with our three young kids. Would appreciate hearing about specific places to go, places to eat, etc. We've already got a place to stay. Thanks!
Oak Bluffs:
Flying Horses Carousel, the oldest carousel in the country
Lookout Tavern is across from the Steamship boat dock and new fishing pier, sushi and pub type fare and porch seating.
Offshore Ale Co is a brewery and offers pizzas and pub food. (NOTE: PEANUTS are served as snacks and are thrown all over the floor etc. so not a place for anyone with nut allergies)
jump off the "Jaws Bridge" at State Beach or just the beach, which is calm - few waves
Biscuits breakfast
Oak Bluffs week is traditionally the 3rd week in August, Wednesday night is Illumination Night with all the Methodist Campground houses ("Gingerbread Houses") lit up by lanterns. Friday night, the Oak Bluffs summer fireworks take place, just off the Steamship dock. Many people view these from Ocean Park.
West Tisbury:
Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Society Fair takes place during the 3rd week in August, carnival rides, animals, competitions, etc with traditional county fair food.
Edgartown:
Wharf Pub & Restaurant is a family friendly restaurant
South Beach often big waves, Left Fork is best for families
Chilmark:
Sunset in Menemsha with picnic dinner. The Galley has soft serve ice cream, Larsen's Fish Market, The Bite,Menemsha Fish Market, and The Homeport side door all offer food to go to sit on the beach and watch the sunset.
Also, check out the public library in the town you are staying. Many of the libraries have great summer programs, readings, kid yoga, all sorts of fun!
