Thinking of spending a few days in Marrakesh while visiting Portugal but will be 5 months pregnant. Is it safe for women to travel there and are there good hospitals in the city?
I see from your question that it has 2 parts:
Morocco is very safe for anyone to travel and you will always fell secure, obviously you will need to take some notes same as if you travel anywhere else.
I suggest if you will be traveling in a tour to make sure you are with a reputable tour company, make sure the accommodation is booked ahead of time and finally make sure understand the distance between the traveling point so that you are not stuck in a bus for hours.
Bargaining on teh market could be overwhelming , the best way to deal with this is to make it very clear to your guide and the merchants that you are not interested and never make it about the money.
third, same as your home city, do not go to dark places and stay in safe zones all the time.
Morocco has good hospitals, but they are not near what you may be used to, at least not even closed to Canada where i live at least.
In case of an emergency there are private clinics which are more equipped than hospitals,
make sure you travel with travel insurance so that you are covered in case you incur any expenses.
Hope this helps
If you want to get a taste of Morocco and actually enjoy yourself, I would NOT go to Marrakech under any circumstance. Fez is a thousand times more enjoyable, a million times less stressful than Marrakech and serviced by all of the same budget airlines. The stress of all the hawkers in Marrakech is unimaginable. Fez is half the size, easily walkable and there is a lot more shade. My wife was only uncomfortable in one of the seven cities we visited in Morocco and that was Marrakech.
As for healthcare, we did not need to visit a doctor personally on our visit. But friends who have gone and needed to have good things to say about it.
Good Luck and have fun,
