Courtney from Los Angeles asked

Beaches/things to do in Malibu?

Even though I've lived here for quite a long time I've never really spent time in Malibu so I've decided to take a little staycation there but I'm not even really sure what to do when I get there. Any advice?

Try Lechuza Beach, next to Zuma Beach, but far less touristy.  Its on Broad Beach.  There are 5 Access Points on Broad Beach and even the locals don't know about all of these.  This is the best stretch of Beach in all of Malibu.  Go all the way to the end when it points back towards the exit and that is the easiest entrance.  Big gate but there is an easement.  Walk through.

One of the best hidden gems in LA. It's so far up that most people stop at one of the many beaches before it, making it far less crowded than the other beaches along the PCH.

Malibu Country Club - Beautiful club-- if you keep your eye on groupon and living social they often have deals for a round of golf here.

Zuma Beach - Great surfing and swimming spot. spot. There is also ample parking which is hard to find at other Malibu beaches. Zuma beach has also been used in many film/tv shoots. This is the spot where Larry Hagman finds the Jeannie bottle in the very first episode of "I Dream Of Jeannie!"

Topanga State Beach - One of my favorite hikes in Malibu. The trail ends up at a little waterfall. It's also not a very difficult trail but give yourself about 2 hours as you'll probably want to stop and take photos!

Getty Villa - While in Malibu check out the Getty Villa. It overlooks the ocean right off of PCH and has a wonderful collection ancient Greek and Roman art and artifacts.

I also really enjoy the Mishe Mokwa - Sandstone Peak trail. Besides some great hikes up in the Malibu mountains there is also a relaxation center up here called the Serra Retreat. It's run by friars.

A really great way to spend a Saturday when the weather is nice is listening to live music at the Malibu Family Wines vineyard and tasting grounds(pictured below). On Saturdays and Sundays, this GORGEOUS outdoor grassy area gets filled with those who just want to come for a day in the sun with astounding views in a serene setting, while listening to lively music and sipping on the local wine. DEFINITELY bring a picnic- my girlfriends and I ate beforehand, and we didn't even think of how fun it'd be to spread out a blanket with a stash of goodies to munch on all afternoon- that's what everybody else there did! I will most definitely be back someday :)
