Southern Maine, near NH. Great Easy Lake, Acton ME

I have rented a vacation home on Great East Lake in Acton ME for a week mid July. It will be myself,y significant other, and our two girls ages 3 and 8. We plan to spend a decent amount of time relaxing at our rental but would also like to take day trips. We would love to visit the coast in a few different places. Went to Portsmouth last year and loved it. This year we are looking to visit the coast between Portsmouth NH and Portland ME. I would love any general information on the area; places to shop, fun day trips for the kids, places to eat. I think we are fairly close to Lake Winnipesaukee and would love to visit that area as well. Any and all recommendations and pertinent information is greatly appreciated.

You are close to some amazing beaches.  I would take a day trip to Wells Beach and comb the beach, play in the sand, and dip your toes in the ocean. If you go to the end of the road on Wells Beach, there is a breakwater and you can find crabs and snails. The beach is wide and plenty of room to play.

I am not sure what else you want to do but here are a few places nearby Story LandClark's Trading PostKancamagus HwyKennebunkport (Maine)Funtown Splashtown USAOld Orchard Beach (Maine).

If you travel to NH a great place to eat is The Common Man Inn & Spa .  Great for kids too.

Have fun.

With children that age, you'll need to explore the parks in nearby New Hampshire. Story Land in Glen, NH, is fun and low-key, particularly for the 3 year old -- my family loved it. York Animal Park in York, Maine, is also very nice if the kids like zoos. The North Conway NH, area, with the Cog Railroad and an indoor water park (which is relatively new) is lovely, and has many shopping outlets. Many people take short hikes from there. Kittery Trading PostMaine, is another place for outlets. Have fun in Maine!
