Kate from Boston asked

Cute Seaside towns in Maine?

I live in MA but somehow have never been to Maine. I would like to take a summer trip for a few days. I'm looking for a really cute town with maybe coffee shops, good restaurants, some shopping opportunities, but with a quaint/quiet feel, that seacoast vibe, with very easy access to waterfront sightseeing/activities. Preference for southern to midcoast Maine to reduce the length of drive! Thanks!

Agree with Shaina, Castine is beautiful!

Southern Maine, consider Brunswick (Maine). Nice and chill, beautiful town center with good shops and restaurants, and near enough to other beautiful coastline like Boothbay Harbor and Rockland for a day trip or two. Also close enough to Freeport to jump into the fray and shop like crazy at LL Bean and other outlets but far enough away that you're not in the tourist mayhem.

If you want straight a straight up stunning environment then go a bit further up to Mt Desert Island and Acadia National Park. Breathtaking

Ogunquit (Maine) Maine is the perfect place to visit! It has an authentic beach vibe, but is also filled with vibrant shops and restaurants.  There are many cute coffee shops on the water, as well as hotels and inns.  The town is small but will keep you entertained. The Front Porch is a great restaurant to visit, it is well known for its booming piano bar and great drinks! Also Old Port in Portland is just 45 minutes from Ogunquit and is filled with shopping and right on the coast.  There is a ferry that you can take a day trip to small islands! There is also great food and overall every time I visit Old Port I have a great time!

All the previous suggestions are great . . . I'd just add a few: Camden (Maine), Damariscotta, Bar Harbor and Belfast. Camden, Damariscotta & Bar Harbour are a bit touristy but Oh So Very maine. I really like Belfast cause although it has some great shops and restaurant, it still has a working Maine fishing village feel.

Hi Kate, My favorite town in southern Maine is Ogunquit (Maine) It has a large sandy beach and the town is filled with great shopping and places to stay. Some of the motels outside of town are cheaper, but there is a trolley system that stops at most of the motels. There is also a place called the Marginal Way Walkway where you can walk from town to Perkins Cove Rd There are many shops and restaurants there too. If you don't want to walk back the trolley can be taken back to town.  You could take a afternoon ride to Kennebunkport (Maine) and York (Maine) It you are there on a rainy day the outlets at Kittery Premium Outlets are close by. I hope this was helpful. If you have any more questions just ask. Jane

Hands down Castine! I have an aunt who lives here and it is just the most quaint and cutest town. Not to mention beautiful in the summer time. It's a very small town but has such an elegant charm to it.

Ogunquit (Maine) and Kennebunkport (Maine) are great, but try Portland (Maine). It's gorgeous with terrific restaurants, and many places to walk.

I recommend Ogunquit (Maine), Kennebunkport (Maine), Boothbay Harbor, Rockland, and Bar Harbor. Ogunquit and Kennebunkport are only about 30 minutes drive into Maine, so very accessible from MA.

I would look atKennebunkport (Maine) or York Beach.  These places are a bit busy but they both have great restaurants, lots to see, shopping, and the ocean.  If you wanted to drive a bit more..Camden (Maine) is a great place to visit too.
