Train/Bus or Car ? Best Option for Eurotrip

(editing my previous question)

Trip starts on 19th July from Madrid > Barcelona>Vienna>Krakow>Budapest (28th)

Budapest>Rome>Paris>Prague>Berlin>Amsterdam  ( 7th)

Really confused about options for travel?

- Train Pass?

- Bus Pass?

- At least one stretch we would like to drive down.

Any help in this regard will be very very helpful!

it is a bit of zig zag in your planning and if the order doesn't mind i would suggest to try and go to the closest one from your list (for example Barcelona, - ParisAmsterdamBerlinPragueVienna BudapestKrakow and fly to Rome)

Regarding some cities maybe is good to check the cheap flights (ryanair, wizz air, blue air) buses like flexibus, regiojet. Sometimes i look on just to have an idea

for poland see: polski bus and luxexpress

if you want to go from Rome to Paris by train or by bus i think you should book 1 evening+night to do it (is around 200 euro by train -

or between some cities you can use bla bla car service.

Have a nice Eurotrip anyway :)

I have rented cars in several countries on Europe and in Great Britain. Considering your itinerary, I would use the wonderful train and bus systems. The car will be expensive, difficult for parking, not worth the hassle. Booking your rail ahead sometimes saves a lot of money with promo fares, special rates. Eurolines and Lux are good bus options. Sometimes the low cost airlines are very inexpensive if you aren't burdened with a lot of weight. I would investigate alternatives to the car. At most, maybe rent one for just a portion of your trip within one or two neighboring countries. Also, having a rental car to drive and park in these major cities, in my opinion, would constitute a cruelty upon yourself.

Hi Sambit!

I use Autoclick in Spain. You can pick up the cars from Barcelona and Madrid airports and they have the best prices.

Another great option if you just need to get from point to point is BlaBla Car. Although it might be a bit difficult with 4 people but still worth checking out.

Have fun :)

First of all, you should be aware that there will be a substantial premium for taking a hire car into as many countries as you are planning, and the insurance premiums will also be high. The cheapest car hire companies may not allow you to do this at all.

It is very unlikely indeed that you will be able to hire a car from the United Kingdom to drive into Europe..and if you find a company which allows it the cost certainly won't be cheap. Both Eurotunnel and the ferries are expensive and both need booking well in advance.

You should also be aware that legal requirements differ from EU country to EU country. For example, if you are not an EU citizen then Italian law requires you to have an official Italian translation of your licence (an IDP fulfils this function) and the equipment you are required to carry in your vehicle (e.g fluorescent vests for all passengers) also varies from country to country.

You'll already know that neither fuel nor parking are cheap.

If you are genuinely on as low a budget as you suggest then imo it might well make better financial sense to travel from place to place using the extensive European network of long-distance buses. is the portal for most long-distance bus routes, though there are also individual websites for different countries such as for Spain.
