Hi Abbie,

I can recommend La Musa Latina or take a wander through the Mercado de San Miguel and pick out very good food from several counters and eat in or out.

There are many vegetarian restaurants, but recently there's a new one, with good reviews, that is going into vegan and raw-vegan. It's called Crucina Restaurant.

I don't know if you would consider it healthy but excelente foos near the Plaza Mayor is the oldest restaurant called Hostería El Botín Del Corregidor. 300 years old. Famous for their roasted baby pig or lamb. Super tender and muy delicioso!

Hello Abbey,

As silly as it may sound on the surface, a tapas crawl is a fairly healthful option.  Think about it, though.

The small plates, spread out over a long period of time, punctuated by walking from one venue to another, is far better than the elaborate meal in a restaurant.  In addition, the offerings are varied, and very few of them venture into the nutritional waist lands.  Very little is fried.  Even less is fatty.  Salt (or sodium) may be the biggest culprit, But that can be compensated for in other ways.

You have complete control over what you consume, how much you consume, and how quickly you consume it.

Plus, it's a real Iberian thing to do!  I've been to tapas places all over the world, and it seems it really can't be duplicated outside of Spain.  Beside, you're on holiday!  You can splurge a little bit.

Happy Travels!

Spanish food (including all the various regional cuisines) in general are some of the healthier cuisines out there.  Ingredients tend to be sourced locally and are fresher than you might find in Australia or America, portions are small but filling, and cooking methods and ingredients are generally healthy.  Just enjoy your holiday, and enjoy some of the finest cuisine on the planet!
