Visiting Madrid and was wondering where the best area would be to stay? I'm in my twenties and would like to be near great restaurants and night life. Where would be the best place/places?
Hi Leslie,
I agree with the other suggestions that Malasaña is probably the best neighborhood to stay in for young people. There are so many bars and restaurants and it's definitely where all the young people go. I also really like Chueca and Alonso Martínez (both not far from Malasaña) for places to stay and do fun things. La Latina is good too.
Have a nice trip!

Hey Leslie,
I would suggest the neighbourhood of Malasaña, the area in between the metro stops of Gran Vía, Plaza de España, Tribunal and San Bernardo.
Full of restaurants, bars and young people, both nationals and foreigners. It's Madrid's hipster neighbourhood, most likely the youngest and liveliest, so I guess what you are looking for.
Possibly not the easiest area to find a hostel or hotel but there should be plenty of options on AirBnB.

Last year we stayed in an apartment in the Austrias area, just behind the Plaza de la Cruz Verde. It was a great area, a short walk to the Plaza Mayor the La Latina Sol. It was also a 5 minute walk to the Mercado de San Miguel and lots of restaurants and bars. We generally came back to the apartment well after midnight and never felt unsafe.

Hello Leslie,
I think that the best area to stay is somewhere near Puerta del Sol... where you have Gran Vía, Parque del Retiro, Plaza Mayor, Fuencarral, Huertas area and La Latina pretty near (look in a map). This area is the one where you will find a lot of restaurants and night life. You will find many hostels as well. hope it helps!

At sol in the heart of Madrid, I will recommend TOC Hostel Madrid if your looking for a hostel
Plenty of cheap hostels on Calle Hortaleza (metro Gran Via, line 5) and walking distance between Malasaña (hipsterville), Chueca (gay area) and Sol (tourist area). Not as noisy as being in the middle of either of the three! Have stayed in Hostal Chelo and can recommend. Mama Inés, across the street is good for breakfast. For an authentic experience, have a cold Mahou beer in the Plaza Dos de Mayo, in the vermut & cañas Bodega de la Ardosa (Calle colón, Malasaña) with a pincho de tortilla, dinner in the trendy Triballat Espana area (walk from Plaza de San Ildefonso down the corredera baja de San Pablo towards gran via), followed by some rock/indie in Sideral Club (plaza de San Ildefonso) or Costello Club (Calle caballero de gracia, near metro Gran Via). Enjoy Madrid - it's a wonderful city ;)
