I'm planning to go to Madagascar mid of July for 18 days, and am looking for a driver/ tour operator. Plan is to travel 3-4 days around Antananarivo, and then flying north to Diego Suarez...
I just got back from Madagascar and we had an amazing time, mainly because we were SO lucky with our drivers! We started our trip with Mahery who I had contact with beforehand via e-mail. He always responds very quickly. I found him through a Lonely Planet forum where I saw that an other Dutch girl recommended him as a driver and she was absolutely right! After three days his cousin Leonard took over, and he was even better! These guys now EVERYTHING about Madagascar, its people, tribes, animals, plants etc. So they are not only your driver, but also your personal tour guide. For a Malagasy they speak English well enough.
They are not part of a touroperator or anything like that. Please contact Mahery via firstname.lastname@example.org
These guys really deserve it! They will also help you with booking hotels, give you tips about where to go, etc..
(we paid €50 per day excl fuel).
By the way, if you are planning to fly... Last week Air Madagascar was still striking, so almost all flights were cancelled. They don't really inform about this, they just cancel their flights :-S. We were lucky that our international flight was with Air France and we didn't have a domestic flight with Air Madagascar. But we spoke to quite a few people who booked a flight and were waiting for a whole day for the flight to leave, but never did... I am not sure for how long these strikes will continue!
Hi Martin, I can help you out. We have a great team in Madagascar. Email me further details on what you're looking for (number of people, arrival and departure dates etc) and I will send you options. Julia@lekkeradventures.com
