Sasha from Houston asked

Hotels to stay at during the Kentucky Derby?

I’m taking my horse-obsessed teenaged niece to the Kentucky Derby next year and would love to book our hotel early so I don’t end up paying through the nose. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m looking for something in the moderately priced range but not bargain basement.

Hello Sasha,

I have listed some conveniently located budget hotels below. The first three hotels are very close to the venue of Kentucky Derby (Churchill Downs), while the fourth option is about 5.4 miles away.

Holiday Inn Louisville Airport - Fair/Expo- Fair/Expo (3-Star, Rating 4.3/5 on Hotels.Com):- It is less than a mile from the Louisville International Airport. Attractions near hotel are Churchill Downs & Kentucky Derby Museum, the Louisville Zoo and local parks. Considering your preference for moderately priced hotel, this truly is a cheap and nicely located hotel @ $105 per night. Book Here.

Crowne Plaza Louisville Airport Expo Ctr (3- Star, Rating 4.1/5 on This Louisville property is close to Kentucky Exposition Centre, and Churchill Downs. Also nearby are Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and University of Louisville. This could also be another option as it costs $ 123 per night. Book Here

Hilton Garden Inn Louisville Airport (3-Star, Rating 8.9/10 on Like above two options this hotel is also located in the same area. But at $139 per night is priced a little higher in comparison at the same time has better ratings. Book Here.

Courtyard Louisville Northeast (3- Star, Ranked #16 of 95 hotels in Louisville on Trip Advisor):- This hotel is located just 20 minutes from down town. Attractions near this hotels are Churchill Downs, Muhammad Ali Centre, Kentucky International Convention Centre, and Louisville Slugger Museum. The price of this hotel is $144 per night. Book Here

I hope the information provided to you will be helpful to you. Let me know if you have further queries.

Hi Sasha,

I hope I am not too late to answer your question. Here are a few of my recommendations:

1.) The Galt House Hotel And Suites: Right on the river. Would have to drive/take taxi to Churchill Downs. Restaurants and entertainment within walking distance.

2.) The Brown Hotel: Downtown Louisville. Known for creating the "hot brown" dinner plate. Has a lot of history and character.

3.) 21C Museum Hotel: This would be my favorite by far. She would love this hotel.
