Luxury trip to LA - areas to stay?

Taking a week vacation in LA to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Want to surprise my wife--take her shopping, relax at the spa, and enjoy some nice meals. Leaning towards Beverly Hills as I've heard Rodeo drive is nice, but not sure. What are the best areas to stay for a splurge trip?

Santa Monica is great for a luxury stay. There are plenty of luxury hotels, and proximity and access to the beach make a great difference! The best ones are Shutters On the Beach and The Huntley Hotel. There are plenty of spas in SaMo including the One at Shutters and exhale Santa Monica at the Fairmont. The shops on Abbot Kinney and Third Street Promenade are just a few minutes away. Brentwood Country MartMalibu Country Mart, and of course the shopping area around Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills are also within a half hour drive (without traffic).

Mentioned in this answer:

  1. Shutters On the Beach (hotel)
  2. The Huntley Hotel (hotel)
  3. exhale Santa Monica (attraction)
  4. Abbot Kinney (attraction)
  5. Brentwood Country Mart (attraction)
  6. Malibu Country Mart (attraction)
  7. Rodeo Drive (attraction)
  8. Third Street Promenade (attraction)

If you want to stick to Beverly Hills, another option would be Mr. C Beverly Hills. It's a quiet, stylish boutique hotel that's a mile from Rodeo Drive, but feels a bit more under the radar. Plus, you can rent a 50s-style Fiat to drive around L.A. in.

Mentioned in this answer:

  1. Beverly Hills (neighborhood)
  2. Mr. C Beverly Hills (hotel)

Check out Hotel Bel-Air Los Angeles for something a bit more special. If you prefer the beach, I agree that Shutters On the Beach is a great option.

Stay away from Rodeo Drive.  You're better off finding a hotel closer to Hollywood.  I recently stayed at the SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills for Valentine's Day.  You can also do dinner at the The Bazaar by Jose Andres which is in the hotel.

Mentioned in this answer:

  1. Rodeo Drive (neighborhood)
  2. Hollywood (attraction)
  3. SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills (hotel)
  4. The Bazaar (restaurant)
