LA lodging under $175 a night on the west side?

Hi. My brother in-law is visiting in January and I'd love to help him find LA lodging that's clean, quiet, safe, and, ideally, walkable. Is that even possible in Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, Venice or West LA? Any first-hand experience with hotels or AirBnB options that fit that description? Thanks!!!!

Montana west of 15th Street is great. Brentwood near Barrington at San Vicente. Playa del Ray is great too. Small town feel. Kind of depends on what he needs to be near for work or otherwise b/c transportation is key. Culver City is very walkable too and the train connects to Downtown LA.
