World class venues for larger performances: Walt Disney Concert Hall (winter home of LA Philharmonic) or Hollywood Bowl (open air amphitheater with diverse line up and summer home of the Phil

Classic rock and roll venues: Troubadour (everyone performed there in the 1970s, including Elton John's first major American gigs)

Present-day leaders at quality slates of Jazz, Blues, etc: the Catalina Bar and Grill, the The Jazz Bakery, the The Baked Potato, Pip's Restaurant on La Brea.

And if you travel from late spring to late summer, you're in luck. LACMA does FREE jazz shows (and wine and food vendors) outdoors in its central courtyard every Friday. Go early, views the galleries (largest public collection in US west of the Mississippi), and close with fun family atmosphere music as the sun goes down.

Ahhhhh. My forté.

Depending on what you like, there are some obvious haunts. Here's the best in my opinion on any given day in the jazz/soul world of Hollywood.

Sunday: W hotel (I know, but trust me, world's best musicians convene here plus some fun celebrity stand ins.

Monday: Sofitel Hotel (Beverly hills) 10-1 incredible jazz with surprise guest stand-ins

Tuesday: Spaghettini Dave Koz Lounge Beverly Hills (cuz we (Flowtet) are on our 40th week in a row) and any given Tuesday is off the chain. Late night The Federal is the spot on Tuesdays.

Wednesday: backstage bar and grill: culver city . Joe Cocker's musical director leads a cast of LA's best with King Chris.

Thursday: Baked Potato North Hollywood.

For the fact this has always been a killer and longtime gem of LA. Call to check who's playing

Friday: see a movie

Saturday. See above.

;)
