Me and my girlfriend are going to California for the first time. We love Mexican food and hear California has the best. We are wanting to know of good places to eat at. Restaurants, taco trucks, or fast food it doesn't matter.
For the best burritos in LA-and quite possibly the best burritos you'll ever have- venture out to Al & Bea's Mexican Food in Boyle Heights. Their tortillas are locally made daily, but it's their green salsa (actually looks like a light red/orange color) is what makes everything so good. My personal recommendations are the bean and cheese burrito with green sauce and an order of green chile cheese fries. Cash only, ATM on site.

Boyle HeightsGuisados for incredibly fresh and tasty street tacos. They also have locations in DTLA and Echo Park. My favorites are Cochinita Pibil and Tinga de Pollo. Wash them down with a cantaloupe aqua fresca.
El Tarasco Mexican Food There's a few locations (Venice Beach a block from the pier) & Manhattan Beach (Rosecrans & Highland), Redondo Beach (on PCH). The MB location is the best, just a counter with big, wet burritos, crunchy tacos, great enchiladas and the best Mexican rice served anywhere!
It's almost too broad of a question. We have tons of great Mexican places. I would go check out Olvera St in downtown LA. It's the oldest part of LA.
Lots of places to eat and see. It's a fun day out. Also check out El Choloout of this world great food.
Wow! You are in for a gastronomical treat. There are so many great options all over LA. To keep the list simple and brief, I'll list a few of my favorites in the central (Hollywood, WeHo) part of town, while freely admitting there are so many great places in other neighborhoods too. So, here goes:
Full Service, Fancy(ish) Restaurants:
The Original Red Onion - Celeb chef Rick Bayless' first SoCal restaurant - Hollywood
Toca Madera West Hollywood - New, hip, beautiful lounge/restaurant with great food. Reservations a Must. - West 3rd St in LA/WeHo
Tortilla Republic Weho - funky, nice room with a small but quite good menu. Original location is in Hawaii. - WeHo (in the middle of the LGBT prime area.
Cactus Taqueria - my go-to place for everything from breakfast burritos to late night tacos. Very broad menu that has no bad items. - Multiple locations in town.
Guisados - All about the tacos of braised meats or seafood with flavor combos you drool over. No taco on menu over $4. Hint: the Sampler Plate gives you 6 different mini tacos for $7. Great aqua Fresca as well. - 4 locations around town, including one in classic downtown LA and one in WeHo.
Ricky's Fish Tacos - hands down the best fish taco I've had in LA. It is a food truck that remains stationary with picnic style seating. - 1400 N Virgil in Hollywood
And One Place That Defies Categorization:
El Carmen - Tequila bar with over 200 tequilas and mezcala? Small plates of Mexican dishes on a simple menu? Museum/tribute to Lucha Libre with hundreds of masks displayed on the walls and ceiling? Yep. All of these. Quite the place. - West 3rd St in LA/WeHo
