Best restaurant with an ocean view

I'm going to LA/Anaheim/Orange County for my birthday weekend (3 days), we're staying by Disneyland two nights and one night in LA and I want to go out to dinner somewhere on the beach or somewhere with a really good ocean view. But the food must be good as well!

My favorite two restaurants along the beach are as follows:

Orange County:
Las Brisas - Located on the cliffs of Laguna Beach.  Delicious Mexican cuisine restaurant with ocean-view (best to call ahead and make reservation and ask for ocean-view).  Outside the restaurant, there are steps that go down to the beach/shore.  Very scenic route.  I have heard L.A. Laker's star Kobe Bryant frequents that restaurant every so often, if you are into celebrity sightings.

Los Angeles:
Shutters On the Beach - It is actually a luxury-hotel, but they have a nice restaurant inside the hotel.  Located on the beach in Santa Monica (ask host/hostess for ocean-view).  American cuisine, which is amazing, but a little pricey.  Best to go with someone else (or group) and share some dishes together.

You only live once, so if you are willing to splurge a little on great food, these two restaurants are worth it.

Enjoy and Happy Birthday!

General rule, the more attractive the view is, the less they care about food quality.  These days a few higher end places are bucking that trend but just be prepared that they'll be expensive.  Very expensive.  WP24 in downtown LA is Wolfgang Puck's modern Chinese place and has a fantastic views of the entire city as it's on the top floor of a skyscraper.  Mastro's Ocean Club - Malibu is on the water in Malibu and Mastro's is one of the best steakhouses around. Nobu Malibu is also very good.  Remember, Malibu is VERY far away from LA and Orange County.

No such thing as best restaurant in LA.. That said, check out Nobu Los Angeles and Duke's Malibu. All are great spots with great ocean views.. PCH via Malibu.

NoBu and Nikita are more on the upscale side.. Enjoy and happy birthday!

I would check out the Rusty Pelican in Newport Beach. It's right on the bay, you can sit outside or inside if it's too cool. And it's only about 30 minutes from the Disneyland area. Also check out Laguna Beach for a day trip to walk around and eat. Two really great areas.

Depends... Where will you be exactly, and how much time do you have? LA is huge and you don't want to be driving across it if you can help it, especially at dinner time.

Here are some ideas, from a recent article:

I agree that Terranea in Palos Verdes has stunning ocean views. Especially if you have a night to stay over, it could be a real treat.
