does anyone have a suggestion on how to get to london from the NY/NJ area inexpensively? the airlines prices are very high! someone mentioned flying to another city and booking from there (i.e. toronto) thanks in advance!
Look into flying into Birmingham (UK). There are good high speed rail links from Birmingham to London, I think that if you plan well it should only add 2 to 3 hours onto your travel time into London.
I use Momondo or Skyscanner to look at flights because they often include budget airlines. Norwegian and WOW air both offer fairly cheap US -> Europe flights. I know Norwegian flies into Gatwick rather than Heathrow which helps keep the price low, so check that out. Good luck!
One reason why London is so expensive is that all airports in the UK charge some pretty steep taxes to all airlines that pass through (even using miles to fly to London costs you nearly $400 in taxes). There isn't a really good way to avoid these, and aside from flying into Paris and taking the train over-you'll waste too much time trying to avoid flying into London from some other destination.
However, take a look at Icelandair. They have very reasonable airfare. You'll have to stop in Reykjavik, but it might just save you several hundred dollars on the airfare.
Did you try Norwegian Air? They have ridiculously low flights between NYC and Europe.
Hey did you try skyscanner.net they show all the best prices over a month/year etc if you are flexible on dates you can get good rates! Cheers )
Norwegian Air is announcing super cheap flights (69 $) from NY to Edinburgh in 2017, but I guess you cannot wait that long ;-(
Depending on your price range, Trip advisor has decent prices, 660$ if you're flying off on the 9th of november for a week. Also you can create price drop alerts that'll notify you through email!
Right now, there are flights for 700 or less, which is a good deal for this time of year. Take a look at Norwegian Air as they have great deals fortunately. Also, use google.com/flights.
Check out Aer Lingus, or other carriers for discounts to Dublin. London is less than an hour from there, with 4 airports served from Dublin and great competition on the route, hence good value fares.
