Good weekend trips from London

I am looking for a good weekend trip to take from London.  I can leave Friday afternoon and the flight should be ~3 hours or less.  Any interesting ideas?

Just over 2 hours from London you can be in Faro and on the Algarve in Portugal. Amazing beaches and wonderful food. Loads of places to stay - Lagos is a wonderful place in the Western Algarve which is a 50 minute drive from the airport. Authentic food, fresh fish and a very relaxed pace of life.

You can reach a lot of places in Europe in three hours on a plane, but, if it's just for a weekend, then you may want to cut down travel time. For example, why deal with international travel via airport when you can take the Eurostar and reach central Parisfrom St Pancras International in a couple of hours? It's much more relaxed.

Alternatively, keeping it in the UK, you could fly very cheaply to Glasgow Airport (about 1 hour), hire a car, and explore the the Scottish highlands. You can reach Loch Lomond in a hour or so and the drive into the highlands is spectacular. There's so many places to see, some of my favourites are GlencoeBen Nevis PeakTobermory (Scotland)Isle of Skye, and of course Loch Ness.

I'd recommend Budapest for great sights and terrific food. It's also amazingly easy to get around and, relative to other places in Europe, cheap!

Hi Sam

I would second the suggestion of Paris via Eurostar train, 2 hours 15 comfortable and relaxing minutes to the Gare du Nord. It's a very unique travelling experience and Paris is a lovely place to visit. visit the Eurostar website for some very good value hotel included deals.

My most recent trips have been Dublin, Edinburgh (both flying from City airport - which saves time) and Brussels (Eurostar). They had particularly short journey times and were great fun!

If you don't mind the cold (er), then Budapest as suggested will not disappoint. It is beautiful, and there are a lot of things and places to see. The food is wonderful and it is cheaper. If you want a little more warmth, Barcelona is also good, or how about SevilleRyanair Reservations & Customer Service and Easy Office offer direct service that clocks in just under 3 hours, and the sights and food will keep you occupied for the weekend. Wizz Air most likely flies direct to Budapest. Have fun!!!

Barcelona

A nice change from London, 2 hrs flight and with lots of budget airlines really affordable. I loved staying in the El Born area and everything you wanted was within walking distance (well except for Parc Güell!)

Get drunk on sangria, eat some tapas and hit up the beach, you'll have a great time!
