Best coffee & cocktails in Lisbon, Portugal?

Hi Trippy folks - am planning a weekend trip to Lisbon. What are the best places for coffee and the best places to get a drink? I especially like cocktail bars & whisky bars.

Hi Alex,

I have a recommendation for cocktails, but it's based on not just having great cocktails on the menu but also having (I would argue) one of the best views in the city. Head to Memmo Alfama Hotel Lisboa before dusk, where you can not only see out toward the sea but also the buildings of Alfama lit up in the late afternoon light.

View below from my last visit there (unedited):

For coffee, everywhere and anywhere. You won't find pour overs or aeropresses but coffee is a huge part of the Portuguese diet, and best drank at a tiny corner bar, reading. For cafes I enjoyed - Botequim (arty), Cafe da garagem (med udsigten) (great view of the city), Noobai Café (lively) or Tartine (if you love your pastries).

Hope this helps! Enjoy Lisbon - it's such a treat :)

-Jodi

My favorite place is to get drinks, with a view, is PARK bar restaurante esplanada. It's a bar at the top of a parking deck, near Bairro Alto Hotel. Great view, great drinks, great dancing and there is an open air part and an indoor part.

Also, for great drinks in a really vintage and cool setting, just in Cais do Sodre, above "Pink Street", is Pensão Amor. It's like an old victorian house meets a library. Really cool atmosphere!

Cinco Lounge and Lux-Frágil - Lux is a nightclub with a cocktail lounge and cool bar on the first floor and dancing downstairs. It is partly owned by John Malcovich!  Cinco lounge is laid back and sophisticated with a lovely atmosphere, you can do a cocktail course there too. Otherwise head to the Bairro Alto region for (almost) all night partying

Hi, Alex. To drink good coffee in Lisbon is easy: you should allways adress to one who has "cafés Delta" coffee announced on the exterior, the best coffee brand, and it´s portuguese.

But if you want to try some historical places to drink coffee, you should try Café A Brasileira or Café Nicola. If you want some trendy places you´ll find lots of them at Bairro Alto or near by Chiado, like Café Lisboa

Hope you´ll enjoy Lisbon!
