My husband grew up in Lawrence and went to KU so I've been there a few times :)

Are you flying into Kansas City and renting a car to get there? If so you have to make a stop at Oklahoma Joe's BBQ & Catering (now Joe's Kansas City BBQ) if you haven't already been-or even if you have! Their BBQ is the absolute BEST, order a Zman and the ribs!

In Lawrence, 715 Restaurant is always our go-to for dinner. We love to sit up at the chef's counter, you usually get an extra taste or two from the kitchen. Definitely recommend a reservation.

The Burger Stand at The Casbah has some awesome burgers, great anytime but especially good for late night. Merchants Pub and Plate is another great option-very cool setting inside an old bank (bathrooms are in the vault) and great selection of craft beers, if you're into that.

Free State Brewing Company is another Lawrence classic-great beer and pub-type food. Ramen Bowls is another great spot right off Mass St serving ramen, obviously, and Mad Greek Restaurant is your spot for Greek cuisine.

The RoostWheatfields Bakery Cafe, and Milton's Café are good options for breakfast/brunch and The Bourgeois Pig is a great spot for coffee (and doubles as great spot to get cocktails). John Brown's Underground Speakeasy is another spot for great craft cocktails, but they do all have some great small plates as well.

Hope that helps, enjoy L-town!

Hey there!

If you're looking for a nicer place with a good steak or seafood then you will want to go to TEN, it is located in the Eldridge Hotel.  For a cool bar/restaurant scene with great wine, pasta and pizza then you should hit up 715 Restaurant. For Thai food then Zen Zero is a great place and for Greek food there is a little spot called the Mad Greek Restaurant that is really good.

The best restaurant in Lawrence in my opinion is Cafe Beautiful though. It is an Asian Fusion restaurant with great sushi as well.  You bring your own wine.

All of these places are located on Massachusetts Street.

I hope you enjoy Lawrence, I've lived there for 3 years and love it!

Thanks so much, Josh! Looking forward to trying out a few. Mad Greek sounds so good! By the way, I'm a part of the community team here and I've helped you highlight the places in your answer on a map! In the future, you can do this yourself as you answer a question by simply typing the @-symbol followed by the name of the place. Take a look at that cool map next to your answer :)

I appreciate the help/info! :)

In addition to the excellent ones recommended already, you might consider Ramen Bowls. It's fairly new to Lawrence and has a unique feel and menu.
