Jessica asked

what are good places to stop between austin and las vegas

It's just me and my husband and we want to save a bit of money. We are also considering taking our doggy. Is it a good idea for a road trip?

Austin (Texas) Las Vegas (Nevada)

As you know, Austin has a ton of dog-friendly places. Assuming you're taking I-20 up to Hwy 84, you can pass through Lubbock where you can find a Sonic Drive-In that has outdoor seating for your dog. There are a bunch of them, so you have some options.
Once you hit I-40 and connect through Albuquerque, check out Tingley Beach for a free place with a dog-friendly beach (must be on-leash).
Then drive to Flagstaff on I-40. Spend some time walking your dog around Coconino National Forest and explore Arizona Nordic Village.
When you get to Las Vegas, eat at The Egg & ILazy Dog Restaurant & Bar, or Big Dog's Brewing Company.
