Las Vegas

Not a gambler but want fun things to do in Vegas

Going with my boyfriend, it's his first time there. He's a local boy from Hawaii so Vegas is considered the ninth island to Hawaiians! Lol! Any suggestions for things to do other than gambling and drinking? Eating and fun stuff mostly?

Hi Lyza,

I'm not a gambler or a drinker either and go to Vegas just about once a year!  Here are a few of the things I enjoy doing while i'm in Vegas.

The Forum Shops at Caesars - Nice shopping area with plenty restaurants. Store are high-end but it's really nice to walk through.

Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino Miracle Mile shops.  Another "Mall" but with approachable stores, also has a lot of restaurants.  My favorite quick service restaurant in the mall is Lobster Me. If you like lobster it's a great place!

Bellagio Hotel - check out the famous fountains! Nice by day but even better at night.  Also go inside to see the Conservatory and grab a treat at Jean Philippe Patisserie .  It holds the largest chocolate fountain. You can get pastries, crepes and other treats.

High Roller - check out the new observation wheel near the The Quad Resort & Casino

Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower - check out the observation deck on top of the Stratosphere.

Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay

Treasure Island - check out the free Siren's Pirate show at night.

The Mirage - volcano eruption at night

And of course shows!  I personally love the Cirque du Soliel shows and  Le Reve - The Dream at Wynn Hotel Las Vegas.  If you plan on seeing a popular show make sure you purchase your tickets before you arrive.

My favorite buffets- Wicked SpoonThe Cosmopolitan.  Bacchanal Buffet Caesars Palace.

Love the crepe place inside Paris Las Vegas

Have Fun!

Wow... there's SO much to do it's hard to know where to start!  For one, walking the Las Vegas Strip is a "trip" in itself!  The buildings are amazing.  We have miniature replicas of other famous landmarks around the world.

We have an Eiffel Tower at the Paris Las Vegas(which has an observation deck at the top), our own Pyramid (the Luxor Hotel and Casino) worth seeing inside. An "Observation Wheel" at the The Quad Resort & Casino which is like the London Eye

The Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower which is one of the highest structures west of the Mississippi - and has incredible views of the strip from the top.

There are also some hidden gems nearby such as Ellis Island Casino, a "hole in the wall" with great, cheap food and beer and the best Karaoke in town.

Town Square Park which is great for shopping just a mile south of Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino

Fashion Show, one of the largest malls in the U.S.

You can't miss City Center.. an amazing mix of condos, hotels, casinos, restaurants, bars, etc. between the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino and the Bellagio Hotel.

OH! and don't miss the Bellagio Fountains...

Each major casino on the strip is a trip in itself.

And food... wow.  On the high end... almost every famous chef has a restaurant on the strip somewhere.  Gordon Ramsay, Emeril, Bobby Flay, etc.  Yet, you can find a White Castle, Denny's, Fatburger and McDonalds on the strip as well.  Whatever your tastes, the strip has it all.

If you like the outdoors, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a great hike.  Hoover Dam is fun to visit.  Lake Las Vegas is less than 20 miles from the strip and is its own world.

Do you like Golf?  Oh boy.  Vegas is one of the top cities in the US for golf.  Again, several courses designed by famous people, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones, etc.  Angel Park Golf Club in Summerlin is one of the best golf "experiences" available with two 18 hole golf courses, a 9 hole executive course, a "real" miniature golf course (actual grass) and a driving range.

In the end you're going to wish you had more time.

Hi Lyza,

Besides the obvious drinking and gambling, vegas is great for eating and shopping. There are many great places to shop, check out this trippy question for more info: http://www.trippy.com/question/Las-Vegas-Where-is-the-best-shopping-in-Vegas

For eating there are a few places I love:

- Koi Restaurant - pricier, but totally worth it in my opinion. You can check out my detailed blog post here (the review is for the one in LA, but they are the same).

- The crepe and bakery place inside the Bellagio Hotel is great!

- The noodle place there as well is yummy and open late!

China Poblano at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is delicious! I have a review: http://www.eatandescape.com/restaurant-reviews/china-poblano

Mon Ami Gabi is my favorite place for brunch and provides great people watching. http://www.eatandescape.com/restaurant-reviews/mon-ami-gabi

If you are willing to spend a money, the shows are always great in Vegas, the Cirque du Soleil are great and a very Vegas thing to do.

Enjoy!

-Kristal

Make sure you wear easy shoes to walk in. No high heels. If you dont gamble, then LV is the place to be. Solid fun and walking.

Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino has a nice aquarium. I love watching the fountain set to music at Bellagio Hotel and the laser light show on Fremont Street Experience, both of which are free. And be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.
