Must see places while driving from Las Vegas to Flagstaff

We will  be driving from Las Vegas to Flagstaff. I was wondering what all places we can visit or things we must do during this drive. This will be a family trip. Hoover Dam is certainly on our list.  Please provide suggestion for good eating places too.

Not exactly en route, but not too far out of the way: Wupatki National Monument (Native American Ruins) is super cool.

And if you're going to be spending time with the family near Flagstaff, Slide Rock State Park is basically a natural water park :-)

There are a variety of restaurants and fast food places in Kingman.  One place you might like is the Golden Corral.  Food is good and the price is quite low for an all-you-can-eat place.  Lots of choices so your kids would love it.

A fun stop on The Historic Route 66 is Seligman. You can stop in at Delgadillo's Snow Cap Drive-In for a shake, or a burger and fries if you haven't eaten in Kingman.  There are several souvenir shops with Route 66 memorabilia including Angel & Vilma Delgadillo's Route 66 Gift Shop & Visitor's Center.

The area you are talking about is fairly empty.  The hoover dam and Grand Canyon National Park are very good options.  One of my favorite places is about 45 minutes to an hour south of flagstaff.  Sedona is a beautiful place and there is plenty to do from hiking to jeep tours to spa weekends. I Highly recommend El Portal Sedona (El Portal Sedona) for a hotel, but if you don't stay there, still check their website for a very good list of sites and attractions.  I highly recommend the hot air balloon ride.  I wish I could give eating but I never found a lot until you got into the major cities.  If you go to the grand canyon park, I recommend find a grocery store and making food before you go.  I didn't find anything good to eat within a couple of hours of there.

The drive from Vegas to Flagstaff is not the most visually exciting but there are some good spots depending on what your group wants to do. Its about a 4 hour drive if you go non stop. The Hoover Dam is a good stop for sure and the tour is worth doing to see what it took to make the dam. It takes at least an hour so you might want to get there early. Here is the detail on the tour -

I suggest packing a lunch to have for after the tour since there probably arent any great options at the Dam, its pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

From there you head south to Kingman on a straight flat road with interesting scatterings of houses here and there. If you want to stop for trinkets, jerky, or a shooting range there are options but I suggest heading to Kingman and then on to Flagstaff.

While the drive is beautiful there isnt much going on in this part of Arizona. Once you get to Flagstaff I suggest trying Macy's Fresh Roasted Coffee or Mountain Oasis for lunch or dinner but there are a lot of options if you check out Yelp.

I hope this helps.
