Las Vegas

Look for new ideas

Been to Vegas many times, looking for off the beaten path, but still cool and possibly walkable from strip. Not asking a lot, huh? For bar, think Peppermill Lounge for unique, old-school type vibe, something like that.  Where do the locals relax with a drink? I really love people watching, so a good place to perch and watch would be great. We'll have a car, so any good day trips to recommend (already did Hoover and Grand Canyon)?

A great day trip is the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. You can drive the loop (about 13mi) and there are many great places to stop and take awesome photos or if you are so inclined do some hiking.

You need to head a little north to Fremont Street Experience. Its being revamped. Lots of cool little bars off of the fremont experience. All the locals go there and the prices are definitely cheaper than the strip. Enjoy!

There are a lot of things that you can do that don't cost anything - Bellagio Hotel has a conservatory that is filled with flowers and plants if you like that. Ethel M Chocolate Factory & Cactus Garden in Henderson is a drive away form the Strip but interesting if you like all kinds of cactus and like chocolate too. Of course, everyone has to see the fountains at Bellagio Hotel. It changes every show at 15 minute intervals. The lions at the habitat in MGM Grand Las Vegas is also interesting. That is on the Strip.

If you want good places to eat, try the buffet at the Sunset Station Hotel And Casino. It is the best one but all of the Station Casinos have good buffets.

Red Rock Canyon in interesting for a drive. It takes about 30 minutes outside of Las Vegas and you can also visit Bonnie Springs Ranch. They film Old Western movies there.

Fremont Street Experience is always fun and will take you downtown with an overhead projection on 6 blocks downtown. You can also catch the acts in Circus Circus Hotel & Casino. They perform overhead and there is also a big Video arcade there.

An hour north of town is Valley of Fire State Park. Two hours north of town is Zion National Park. Lots of fun new bars downtown at Fremont Street Experience. Downtown Container Park is new. The ferris wheel at The LINQ. Mt Charleston is about 30 minutes away.
