Heading to Lahore and I'm looking for the best restaurants to try while I'm visiting. Open to all types of food! What are your top places to eat?
Depends what you are looking for. Price, Quality, Ambiance, location or experience.
Lahorites are notorious for their naughty gazes, on the opposite sex. Its a very colorful and different culture from Karachi. People are loud and noisy, They laugh, quarrel, sing, fight eat (a lot) on high notes.
BTW how was your stay at Karachi, do let me know.
If you like to check the local cuisine, dont care much for the ambiance, and want the true lahori culture, then Gawalmandi Food Street both of them, there is a new once near the Royal Mosque (with a great view over the actual/older Lahore city) You should visit the Badshahi Mosque. its a piece of art work, while on the chapter, you should also visit Shalimar Garden and the Lahore Fort.
Next if you like some thing with an Ambiance some thing on a more 'civilized/mannered' touch, then Mall Rd, Bistro 201, very decent place, goto top roof for a great view, its on the 3rd,4th, floor of a building with a great view.
Jammin Java, in johar Town, near Allah Hoo Round about is a good pick as well.
These are all not very expensive or branded restaurants, there are a tons of others, not so flashy, but with good taste and clean cooking.
If you like the Pastun dishes, some the the most traditional, and cultural dishes, then visits Sarhad restuarant in Gulberg and Shaheen Shinwari in Johar town, they serve Lamb (yes all meat) and once you taste their Chapli Kabab you will forget all that McDonalds stuff they pass off as food. Its a bit too oily for Western taste, and a bit strong on the spices, But then again you are in pakistan the land of flavors colors and spice.
Do let me know when you land here, i will look up some other great eat outs, I am sure you will love them :)
