Liz from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania asked

Best Area in La Jolla to stay/ Walkable?

Hi, what would be the best area of La Jolla to stay in, for two couples who want to be able to walk to cafes and shops? Is La Jolla Village or La Jolla better? Any recommended areas for a VRBO or recommended hotel? Thanks!

La Jolla Village (California)   La Jolla (California)   San Diego (California)

La Jolla Cove, the coastline and all the other things you want to do – walking the cliffs are a fantastic way to spend a day – is all in the village. There's not many places to stay there; the La Valencia Hotel is one and it and other places would be expensive. The Marriott and other places are across the freeway and then you'll have to drive into LaJolla.

While there, among the obvious things of walking around and seeing the incredible scenery, are to stop and have a couple of margaritas at Jose's. You COULD stay in Pacific Beach just down the coast, rent a bike a pedal into La Jolla.

The best area is La Jolla (as opposed to La Jolla Village) if you want to walk to cafes and shops.  The closer to Prospect Street, the better.

Downtown La Jolla for sure!  Check out Colonial Inn or La Valencia.  Gorgeous, quaint hotels right in the heart of La Jolla.
