Kolkata offers multiple indian cuisines and international cuisines. I would suggest to eat the local bengali cuisine, the indo chinese fusion cuisine and the indian mughlai cuisine the city has to offer.

Bengali Cuisine- This is the local cuisine, originating from state of west bengal- the restaurants to try are- 6, Ballygunge Circular Rd, Rowland RowBhojohori Manna.

Indo - Chinese Cuisine- You may visit the chinatown area for indo chinese cuisine which has emerged as a part of the chinese migrants settling in India. Amongst many restaurants in th Chinatown area, Big Boss RestaurantBeijing Resturant are the famous ones.

Biryani- Try the following places- ARSALANAminia RestaurantPeter Cat  (Chelo Kebab is the signature dish)

Rolls- try kusum rolls serving chicken, mutton rolls in flat breads on park street area

Hope it helps

Spice Kraft is my favorite right now. It's Indianish fusion. The chef is very talented and makes some amazing pork dishes. Get his recommendations if you can. The Dajaj Chermoula appetizer is a favorite of a lot of people. It's a bone-in chicken kabab with Lebanese spices - amazing flavor and tenderness. The desserts are fantastic. The straight up Indian dishes are excellent too. The prices are very reasonable.

Hi Katie,

Kolkata is the city of foodies. You get all types of food. The central place in the city is called Park Street area which is flanked by restaurants on both sides as well as night clubs. Some of best restaurants you will find on Park Street are Peter Cat (you should try their Chello Kebab and prawn cocktails), Barbeque Nation - Coimbatore - Town Hall (for North India cuisines), Mocambo (you should check out their devil's crab for sure). The other option is to check out the China town. It's called Tangra..not a very upmarket place but awesome chinese restaurants. There are lots of shisha joints all over the city and some really nice terrace cafes in the southern fringes of the city. You should visit What's Up if you like a quirky ambiance. The cafe is located on 122A, Southern Avenue, near Goal Park, opposite Nazrul Mancha. This is a popular hangout zone and it even has a jacuzzi on the terrace where you can dip your feet while you enjoy and food and drinks. Hope I have been able to answer your queries.

Kolkata is a heaven for foodies... All kinds of foods are available here. I would enumerate restaurant based on food.

Biriyani. (Or pilaf) has a very distinct taste here (it is rice mixed with herb n meat), try Arsalan, Aminia ( near new market) Shiraz ( near Park Circus) the dish is straight from the nawab's (the Muslim kings of india) kitchen. Try the mutton chaap or the rezala as a side dish n finish it off with Firni(dessert)

Bengali food. The staple of Bengalis. You can try the set meals at peerless inn(aheli) or go for 6 Ballygunge place ( name n address same) or go to Kasturi near jamuna cinema hall near free school street.

Chinese. Head towards Tangra, the china town of kolkata for an Indian version of Chinese food. Or head to mainland china in gurusaday road for a much finer experience. For a more real experience head towards tiretta bazar area near central metro station on Sunday morning for street Chinese breakfast, go there for the experience. Try to be there by 6.30 am

For a continental fare head towards olypub, mocambo or Peter cat. All near Park Street. Do try the chello kebab of Peter cat and devilled crab of mocambo.

For a vegetarian meal you can go to ISKCON near gurusaday road. The name of the restaurant is Govinda's.

For street foods do try the phoochka (or Fuchka) mutton roll (nizam in new market),

Last, do not leave kolkata before tasting it's sweetmeat (Sandesh) n nobody makes it better than nakur ( girish chandra Dey nakur chandra Nandi) in ram dulal Sarkar street. Try all the varieties. It can put the Swiss chocolates to shame. Do not be let down by the appearance of the shop. It is the top eating place even at trip advisor.

And lastly savour the rasagolla at Chittaranjan near Shyam bazar. The sponge rasagolla and madhuparka is a wonderful creation.

Have a wonderful time

I'd recommend doing one of the food tours to get a good introduction into the local scene. It was 4-5 hrs of food, drinks, and some history. Amazing

Depends on what type of cuisine you like. If you want to try local cuisine then go for 6 Ballygunge Place, Kasturi Restaurant, etc. If you want to try spicy mughlai cuisine then try Oudh 1590, Arsalan etc.. Check zomato for all result and rating.
