Eva from Wakarusa asked

family vacation

I am looking for a good family vacation for a family of four, two teenagers ages 17 & 13.  We are planning on being at our destination about 4 to 5 days.  Not wanting to spend a lot of money.  would like some sight seeing along with a place to relax

We will be going along the coast, not sure how far up into Maine, I would just like ideas.  I have never been to Maine so it would be a first for the whole family.

I am from Kennebunkport (Maine) so of course I am biased, but it's lovely and just 30 minutes into the state of Maine. I would recommend visiting York (Maine), Kennebunkport (Maine), Boothbay Harbor, and Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park. If you really want to see Maine, I think you need to go to Acadia. I went when I was a kid and loved it. I have written a bit about Maine, these posts might be helpful: http://thekittchen.com/maine-travel/

Make sure to check out York Beach.  Great family area, great beaches, low on honky-tonk, big on a classic beach feel.  Head up to Harpswell and Boothbay Harbor (Maine), get lost in the inlets, and enjoy what Maine really has to offer along the seacoast-

Kennebunkport is an absolutely adorable little town! I rented a house for 4 days last summer about 2 miles from the downtown area and it was just perfect. The downtown has an amazing wood oven stove cooked pizza place and a gelato shop near by. The downtown area is a mile or so from the beach which is chilly, but very nice. I would suggest looking at the downtown areas nearby, the shops are endless and there are small town restaurants around every corner!
