Attn BBQ snobs: top Kansas City BBQ spot needed!

I'm heading to Kansas City to visit my brother in February, and I'm really looking forward to eating some authentic KC BBQ. I'm not concerned about atmosphere or price, but looking for some tasty, mouth watering--so good I'll be talking about it for months--BBQ. Here's the deal: I only have time to try one place. With this being said, what are the top spots I would regret not trying?

I agree with Rob's suggestion of Oklahoma Joe's BBQ & Catering...it's definitely the consensus among most of the people I know. Great meat and great sauce.  It's located inside a gas station and has limited seating, so go early if you're headed there for lunch.

this is a loaded question.  if you don't have time to eat my ribs, the simple answer would be Oklahoma Joe's BBQ & Catering. Best combination of quality smoked meats and atmosphere.  many would say Arthur Bryant's Barbeque if you love eating in the past or Gates' BBQ if you love eating what sounds PC.   Rosedale BBQ has great ham and BBQ beans if that's your thing.   Smokin' Guns BBQ in NKC is tasty if you want to head to a place you have never heard of.   BB's Lawnside BBQ or Hayward's Pit Bar-B-Que if you want to go old school. Basically if you want something wet the skies the limit, if you want something dry you will have to be selective and if you want something Carolina style, good luck.

My family's favorite has always been Hayward's Pit Bar-B-Que - great burnt ends and you have to have the onion rings!

If your in for something you can grab and go, consider Zarda on 87th St. or  Oklahoma Joe's BBQ & Catering on 119th. Everyone will suggest Oklahoma Joe's, but it can be a mad house because of it's popularity. There are better options.

Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue on 95th St. is the best sit-down BBQ place, with Wil Jenny's on 135th not far behind. Arthur Bryant's Barbeque is up there as well.

My two favorite BBQ restaurants in Kansas City are Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue and Joe's Kansas City BBQ (formerly Oklahoma Joe's BBQ & Catering).  Joe's is a more casual restaurant and Jack Stack is a nicer restaurant. The best location to experience Joe's BBQ is the original location within a gas station (http://www.joeskc.com/contact).  My favorite location for Fiorella's Jack Stack is the Freight House location near Union Station (http://www.jackstackbbq.com/jack-stack-freight-house.aspx).

Oklahoma Joe's BBQ & Catering Hands down. Worth it. Best ever. You can get an "adult kids meal" that's not listed on the menu that is a bomb.com barbeque sandwich, fries and a soda for $5.

Oklahoma Joe's BBQ & Catering(recently renamed to Joe's Kansas City) is fantastic.  The original location is in Kansas City, KS in a gas station, if you feel up to the the full BBQ experience.  Joe's has topped must-try BBQ lists across the country.  Another fantastic place is Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue.  It has a completely different feel - more sit-down casual eating, but the food is still amazing.

Also, if you find extra time - there is now a BBQ food tour that might be worth checking out - http://kcbarbecuetours.com/

As a former local of the KC area I would suggest that you check out Johnny's B-B-Q in Mission Kansas. My all time favorite and they have great Wednesday and lunch specials.
