My wife and I are doing an around-the-world trip for 1 year and were told to visit Jordan by a trusted friend... But we don't know much about it! Aside from Petra and Wadi Rum, what places should we visit?
We love active pursuits (hiking, boating), REALLY love local food, love the outdoors, and love ancient sites. We're not huge fans of museums, galleries, or white-tablecloth fanciness... We're happy to rough it. We'd love any feedback on towns to visit, restaurants to eat at, great neighborhoods to explore, etc.
When in Wadi Rum ask about Mafle, a local guide that helped us five years ago to explore the desert. He is a very nice guy. Tell him about the four Romanians that he guided, maybe he will remember us.
For eating, I recommend every other restaurants in small town you encounter. The local food is greatness.

There are tons of things to do in Jordan apart from Museums, galleries etc.. Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth where you will enjoy fantastic sea views and amazing local food. Aqaba is another sea view place in south Jordan. jeep riding and camping in Wadi Rum is another must.
enjoy your trip!
