Kid Friendly Activities in and around Montego Bay?

We're looking to go to Jamaica this winter, and I was looking for some fun activities for the kids (6 and 3 years old).  I'd rather avoid the "all-inclusive" resorts in favor of some more authentic Jamaican experiences.  I don't want to spend the entire trip in a car, either, so nearby Montego Bay is preferred.

I know you said you wanted to avoid all-inclusives but there is one not too far from Mo Bay that is really ideal for kids and you'll still get a taste of Jamaican culture. It's called Franklyn D Resort and a Jamaican "nanny" is included for each family. (We don't have kids- we went for a conference and for Christmas while we were Peace Corps Volunteers. Our experience is shared on our blog here: http://intentionaltravelers.com/2014/06/30/worthwhile-attractions-in-jamaica/). We saw a number of resorts around the island that are just generic and isolated from the "real Jamaica" but this one isn't really like that. They feature Jamaican food alongside American, have Jamaican entertainment in the evenings. It's not super high end but I think it's a decent value compared to other resorts. They have a ton of activities for kids and families to do together and it's pretty centrally located if you want to do an extra excursion or two.

If you do stay in Montego Bay, there is a water park, Aqua Sol Theme Park- never went there myself. Doctors Cave Beach Hotel is really nice and a safe place to play. Glistening Waters Restaurant and Marinain Falmouth might be interesting for kids.

Hope that helps!

Chukka Good HopeTrelawny Parish also offers a lot of activities for families. There is a waterfall, bird aviary, Pool, river tubing and lots more. you can do some research on them. If you do not mind leaving the walls of your hotel you could also try Lucky Strike Its a kid friendly bowling and entertainment spot in Montego Bay

Enjoy your vacation and stay safe!

Hi Andrew,

A family friend stayed at Meliá Braco Village in Montego Bay and loved it. Some of the things she liked were:

1. The homely and casual feel. It's not as big and busy compared to the other all-inclusive resorts

2. The high quality food

3. Kids activities, kids club and babysitting service

4. Away from the noisy activities yet close to favorite tourist spots like Green Grotto Caves and Luminous Lagoon

It's only about 45 minutes from the Sangster International AirportMontego Bay airport.

Note: Choose The Level beachfront category.
