Going on a business trip to Jakarta and was thinking of taking a day or two for leisure. Been there many times in the past for business, but I never thought of it as a place to explore.
I spent a summer working in Jakarta, and to be honest, unless you particularly enjoy shopping (in which case they have giant malls like Plaza Indonesia, Grand Indonesia, etc), then I would recommend going on a weekend trip to Bandung (foodie and cultural town), Bogor (outdoor gardens / activities and Taman Safari Indonesia) or if you're willing to fly, Yogyakarta (amazing and beautiful rice paddies and temples like Borobudur Temple) instead.
If you do want to stay in Jakarta, some cool cultural activities include Taman Mini Indonesia Indah - it's a cultural center that's a mini recreation of traditional Indonesian homes from different parts of the country - hence "mini Indonesia." Kota Tua, the old town. There's a small museum and open plaza / park that you can walk around.
Hope that helps!
