Aparthotel Vistamar was a fabulous hotel and won't break the bank. Jaco is a busy beach town with plenty of nightlife options. Go to the Hotel Cocal And Casino & Jaco Laguna Resort & Beach Club for a fun crowd or Le Loft.

Suggest you visit while in San Jose Amón and Barrio Escalante. Escalante offers great gastronomy, bars, restaurants and a pretty cool environment. National Theatre of Costa Rica is a must! add it to the list!
If you go to Jaco (not very fan of this area) take a moment to visit Los Suenos Resort And Marina, you dont have to be a guest at the hotel to access the marina.  Really nice spot to drink a beer, find nice restaurants, coffee shops, and a unique spot for a perfect sunset!

Hope this helps! Pura vida!!

Things to do in downtown San Jose - Pre-Columbian Gold Museum  This is a fantastic museum which has more than just gold in it.  And before you go there, go to the new Museo de Jade as that has the history of BEFORE the Gold Museum (the museum has moved - it was on the top floors of an insurance company but it has its own building now).  After you do the Gold Museum, go around the corner to the Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica and look for the mistake in the paintings on the ceiling (hint - bananas and coffee).  You can have lunch in the National Theater - there's a nice cafe there.  Get a milkshake after at Pops

You can also eat lunch at Hotel Grano De Oro (less expensive to eat lunch there than to eat dinner).  Another place to eat is the Holiday Inn San Jose-Aurola which has a restaurant on the 12th floor overlooking the park.  The National Craft Market (the next best thing to going to Sarchi).  I didn't find the Mercado Central as interesting because I wasn't actually buying any food.

There are quite a few other museums in San Jose (children's museum, art museum etc) but I think the Gold and Jade museums are the best.

If you are looking for a good restaurant you have to go to The The HangOut, is a really good family place with a vintage-surf style decoration, and the best is that they have homemade food everyday!

In San Jose, we ate at the Costa Rica Beer Factory and it was in such a cute neighborhood. A hipster vibe with craft beer and good food.
